Two new books from Sealaska Heritage Institute

ANLA just received two new publications from the Sealaska Heritage Institute.
  • Haa Léelk’w Hás Aaní Saax’ú: Our Grandparents’ Names on the Land, compiled by Tom Thornton, is a compilation of Tlingit place names, nearly 20 years in the making. 
  • The Alaskan Haida Phrasebook, by Emma Lawrence and Jordan Lachler, is the most comprehensive phrase book of any Alaskan language.

Thanks and congratulations to Ed Alexandar

We'd like to express our thanks to Ed Alexander, Language Coordinator at the Yukon Flats School District, for assisting with the digitizing and cataloging of Gwich'in language materials. Ed volunteered his time while in Fairbanks awaiting the birth of child. His daughter Ch’eelil Emily Virginia Jyah Alexander was born April 8th. Congratulations Ed and Alisa!

Thanks to the good folks at University of Alaska - Office of Information Technology - Application Services, the digital file icons () are working again. Search results will display this icon when digital files are available for download.

While we continue to work to make more materials available online, bear in mind that many resources are not yet available in digital form. If you require access to materials which do not have this icon, please contact archive staff for assistance.

System update: Digital files offline for four hours Wednesday, April 11

Due to schedule maintenance, access to digital files will be unavailable between the hours of 8:00 AM AKDT and 12:00 PM AKDT (16:00-20:00 GMT).

Storage services are provided by the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center. Information about scheduled downtime for the BigDipper storage server can be found here.

As of today, Wednesday, April 4 at 8:00 AM AKDT access to digital files at ANLA is unavailable due to scheduled maintenance on our storage server. Service will resume at 8:00 AM AKDT (16:00 GMT) Thursday, April 5. We apologize for this inconvenience.
